High Contrast International Juried Exhibition

High Contrast International Juried Exhibition invites artworks that make stark contrasts visible and draw attention to radical difference in the world around us. "High contrast" can exist in an artwork's juxtaposition of very strong black and white elements or vivid, bright objects cast against deep, dark shadows. The term might also refer to oppositional differences in subject matter (big/small, curvilinear/angular, rough/polished) or examples of "high contrast" in social and economic disparities, political polarization, or natural landscapes disrupted by human objects.

The exhibition welcomes a diverse array of media, including digital media, film, graphic art, painting, illustration, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, video and installation art. Artists of all ages are welcome, regardless of where they are from or how they identify. The juror is Alexis Lowry, Curator at Dia Art Foundation, working in collaboration with youth from The Art Effect's curatorial program. Artwork will be selected collaboratively and exhibited at the Trolley Barn Gallery as well as online.

Entry Deadline: December 10, 2021 at 11:59 PM MST. Exhibition Dates: March 11 - April 14, 2022 at the Trolley Barn, 489 Main St., Poughkeepsie, New York. Opening Reception: Friday, March 11, 5-7pm. Entry Fee: $35 for the first three images plus $5 for each additional image (15 images max, including up to 3 video submissions). Discounted rates available for Art Effect & Barrett Art Center Members ($30), City of Poughkeepsie Residents zip code 12601 ($30), and current Art Effect students ($20). Artists will be notified within approximately 2-3 weeks after the deadline. Artwork delivery: February 26, 28 - March 4, 2022. Shipping and pickup: April 15, 16, & 18, 2022. Prizes: $500 First Prize, $250 Second Prize, $150 Honorable Mention. Artwork must be exhibition ready with a maximum of 7' in any direction; 2D artwork should not exceed 65 pounds. Artists are responsible for transportation and return shipping. The Art Effect will retain a commission fee of 20% for members and current students, 30% for non-members on any artwork sold.
