About This Call
GearBox Gallery invites submissions to its 2021 juried exhibition, Hierarchy. The exhibition explores hierarchy as a system that ranks people or things according to importance or power, including social and racial hierarchies, institutional structures, ecological systems, psychological needs, and personal artistic choices.
Eligibility: Open to Northern California artists over the age of 18. Artwork must be original, created between 2017 and 2021, and of any media. Works must be able to fit through a standard doorway. All entries must include title, medium, year, and specific dimensions. Submissions may include up to 3 images or media files (images up to 5MB in jpg, png, or gif format; video/audio in mov, wmv, flv, or mp4 format up to 60MB). Entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). One application per artist.
Juror: Elena Gross, Curatorial Manager of Exhibitions and Emerging Artists Program at Museum of the African Diaspora. Awards include a Juror's Award featuring a two-person exhibition at GearBox Gallery the following year, and a GearBox Gallery Award offering exhibition in the Inner Room. Exhibit dates: July 23 to August 21, 2021. Accepted artwork must be delivered in person to 770 West Grand Ave, Oakland, CA between noon and 4pm on Sunday, July 18, 2021. Artwork must be framed and ready to hang or display. Notification of selections will be made by email on June 15, 2021. All artwork must be for sale; GearBox Gallery retains 40% of sale price. Artist assumes all liability for artwork during exhibition dates. Artwork must be picked up between noon and 4pm on Sunday, August 21, 2021; unclaimed work is subject to $10 per day storage fees and becomes gallery property after 15 days.
