About This Call
This online juried exhibition explores the notion of "ephemerality" in metalwork and jewelry, showcasing work that explores transience, is comprised of impermanent materials, incorporates memorabilia and "ephemera," and/or exists through time-based performance and photography. The exhibition is open to all current SNAG members and welcomes traditionally crafted, contemporary, and experimental new works in jewelry, body ornamentation, sculpture, installation, photography, and related fields. This iteration of We Are SNAG coincides with SNAG's 50th anniversary, celebrating the innovation and experimentation in jewelry and metalsmithing since the organization's founding in 1969.
Eligibility is open to all current SNAG members 18 years of age or older. Applicants need not reside in the United States. All work must be original and produced within the last five years (2013 or later). Objects made from commercial kits or commercially available plans are not eligible. Collaborations are allowed if all artists involved are current SNAG members, though artists may only participate in one application either as part of a collaboration or individually, not both. There are no size restrictions for this exhibition.
Applicants must submit 1-3 images of original work with title, material, dimensions, and year of completion. An artist statement (up to 3,000 characters) and brief bio (up to 3,000 characters) are required. The entry fee is $25 (non-refundable). Applications are accepted online through CallForEntry.org. Video submissions may be supplemented and sent to [email protected] via Dropbox, Google Drive, or YouTube. The deadline for entry is September 15, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time. Notification of results will be sent by email on November 15, 2018, and the online exhibition goes live on the SNAG//SPACE website on December 15, 2018. Co-curators are Kathryn Hall, Curator at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and Sarah Darro, Windgate Foundation Curatorial Fellow at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.
