About This Call
The Brink Award is a $12,500 non-restricted biennial award established by John and Shari Behnke to recognize and encourage emerging visual artists working in Washington, Oregon, or British Columbia whose early work shows unusual creativity and originality. The award recipient will receive a solo exhibition at the Henry Art Gallery and have a work acquired for the museum's collection.
Eligibility is defined by completion of an academic degree within the last five years or another significant professional or artistic milestone, as determined by the selection committee. Evidence of professional achievement is required, but artists do not need an extensive record of accomplishments. Artists may be of any age and under-recognized by peers, curators, or critics. The artist must currently work in Washington, Oregon, or British Columbia.
Nominations are accepted from arts professionals in these regions. Nominators must provide a complete CV, bio or credentials for themselves and a letter not exceeding 500 words emphasizing the nominee's merits and promise, along with complete contact information for the nominated artist. Nominated artists deemed eligible will be asked to submit 10-15 images and/or up to 5 minutes of video/audio work representing their career, plus a CV or biography. The selection committee will review materials in early 2011 and conduct studio visits with finalists in March 2011. The award winner will be announced April 15, 2011, with the exhibition opening in fall 2011 or later. Contact Leah Walker, Special Project Coordinator, at [email protected] or 206-221-3611 for more information.
