About This Call
The Gainesville Fine Arts Association invites submissions for its 4th National Biennial Juried Exhibition, HEAT. The theme is informed by Jeff Goodell's book The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet. The exhibition seeks artworks that relate to heat as the first order threat and prime mover of climate crisis impacts. Participants can use any medium, with all approaches—traditional and non-traditional—welcome.
Entry fee is $35 for 2 images, with an additional $5 per image for submissions up to 6 total images. If submitting a single piece, submit two images of the same work (one full image and one detail). Artists must be 18 or older. Only original works are accepted; no substitutes or reproductions. All artwork must be ready to hang with proper hardware. Framed pieces that are shipped must use plexi; hand-delivered works may use glass. Artists shipping work must provide a return shipping label. Artworks should include a price or be marked NFS. GFAA retains a 30% commission on all works sold during the exhibition, and any sold work must remain on display until the end of the exhibition run.
Awards total $4,000: one $1,000 Best In Show award and four $500 Awards of Excellence. Artists will be notified July 15. Work delivery is August 14-21, with the exhibition running August 28–October 19, 2024. The opening reception is August 30, 2024, 7–10 pm, and a speaker event is scheduled for September 28, 2024, 6–8 pm. Curators are Skip Snow and Katy Lemle. Jurors include Jeff Goodell (author), Jane Gilbert (Chief Heat Officer, Miami-Dade County Office of Resilience), Katy Lemle, and Skip Snow.
