Heartwood - the dense, mature inner wood that forms the structural core of every tree - serves as both literal inspiration and powerful metaphor for this exhibition. We seek artists who dare to dig deep into what sustains us, what holds us upright, what forms our unshakeable center. All interpretations of heartwood are welcome: the scientific study of tree anatomy, the spiritual symbolism of rootedness and growth, the environmental urgency of forest preservation, or deeply personal meditations on what anchors us to place and purpose. From the towering pines of Maine’s coast to the paper birches of interior woodlands, from ancient giants to tender saplings, we welcome all artistic media and approaches that celebrate the enduring presence of trees in our lives and landscapes.
