heARTS of LYONS 2024 Call to Sculptors

The heARTS of LYONS Outdoor Arts Collection is a perennial celebration of art and sculpture displayed outdoors throughout Lyons, Colorado. The town, with a population of 2,100, is an arts-rooted destination noted for its music, artists, and setting in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Historically a quarry town that provided stone for the Smithsonian in Washington, DC and CU Boulder, Lyons has become a destination for art and music lovers and outdoor river sports enthusiasts. The rotating collection offers art that escorts travelers through the town and entices return visits.

Artists selected for the heARTS of LYONS collection receive a $1,000 honorarium ($500 upon installation and $500 upon de-installation). Artists must agree to a two-year placement and sign a formal Artist/Lender Agreement. The Town of Lyons will generally provide red sandstone landing bases for each work. Artists are responsible for transporting their works to and from the landing site. If town visitors purchase works, artists are asked to replace the piece with a similar work and provide a 5-10% commission to the Lyons Arts & Humanities Commission.

Artists may submit up to three works. Free-standing sculptures are preferred due to limited wall space. Wood elements should be avoided as they do not hold up well over the two-year loan period. Eligibility is limited to Colorado artists only. The entry deadline is January 22, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Jury dates are January 22-30, 2024.
