About This Call

Ann Connelly Fine Art is seeking artists for the Healing Arts Program at the Mary Bird Perkins-Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center. The art program objective is intended to comfort, encourage, and inspire patients, staff, and family as they receive treatment, provide care, and accompany their loved ones through the journey of illness. Artwork will serve to assist in way finding, particularly in elevator lobbies and corridor intersections where patients and visitors need to make important directional decisions.

The Healing Arts Program calls for work that contributes to this mission while engaging the modern architecture of the hospital. Submissions must be painting/drawing on canvas, panel or paper; mixed media and alternative processes on canvas, panel or paper; or moveable artwork that can reside in a public pathway and be installed on the wall. Artwork should incorporate a "less is more" approach with impact in quality, color, and scale. Dynamic mark making should be unique in voice while engaging a public audience. References to Louisiana landscape, the Southern region, and local color are encouraged, providing a welcomed respite for patients and visitors. Nature-based imagery should engage the modern and progressive design of the facility.

Qualified artists must have 8-10 years of professional experience, be open to commissions and work well under commission parameters, and be able to provide estimated time for commissions and any limitations on size or medium. Submissions should include 3-8 images representative of current body of work (work must be available or readily commissioned), current artist's resume or CV, list of prior representation if applicable, and a discussion of submitted artwork's imagery, style, and how it relates to the Healing Arts Program theme. Work will be selected on artistic merit, creativity, and its relationship to the theme. The application deadline is April 1, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
