About This Call
Stapleton announces an opportunity for integrated or incorporated public art in or within the vicinity of Havana Town Center. The budget range for this public art project is $450,000 to $650,000, covering all costs including artist design fees, participation in design team meetings, travel, materials, fabrication, installation, and documentation.
The Havana Town Center, located at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Havana Street, will be a pedestrian-friendly mixed-use development with retail, restaurants, and possible residential or commercial spaces. Available spaces for public art include a triangular open space at the MLK couplet initiator and the retail plaza along Geneva Court. The artist or artist team selected will work closely with the design team to identify opportunities for art integration. Project options include major sculpture, artwork incorporated into buildings, interactive fountains, or uniquely designed paving. Construction is scheduled to break ground in fall 2007 with completion in fall 2008.
Selection criteria include quality of aesthetic expression, ability to work with multiple solutions and diverse media, experience in collaborative design efforts, and suitability to the project. Artwork must be sustainable, durable, require minimal maintenance, and withstand Denver's intense sun and temperature extremes. Applicants must submit a resume, eight digital images of relevant work with annotations, an artist statement not exceeding 250 words, and any media or sound materials in DVD format. Media submissions must be postmarked by December 21, 2006. Applicants must be legal residents of the United States. Three finalists will be selected for interviews on February 13, 2007, with travel stipends provided for finalists beyond 100 miles of Denver. Final notification is anticipated by February 23, 2007.
