About This Call
The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville (CCGJ) and its Art in Public Places Committee (APPC), on behalf of Preston H. Haskell, is soliciting qualifications submissions for permanent, contemporary outdoor sculptures to be privately funded and located on private property in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. The objective is to place significant and impactful outdoor sculptures on private property visible from city streets throughout downtown. Locations will typically be plazas or open spaces at street level adjacent to principal high-rise buildings. This initiative contemplates approximately ten sculptures.
Eligibility is open to individuals 18 years of age or older residing in the United States. Artist teams are acceptable and encouraged. Sculptures must be delivered at a purchase price up to $45,000, range from 20' to 30' in height, and be contemporary, abstract, non-representational and colorful in nature. Sculptures must be appropriate to their specific location and high traffic public environment, designed with consideration of public safety, constructed of permanent long-lasting materials that are virtually maintenance free, structurally secured to concrete or masonry substrate, and capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions. Sculptures involving electric power, water, electronics, or based completely on light sources will not be considered.
Submission packages must include images of a minimum of four and maximum of eight completed sculptures of the specified scope, information on images including location, dimensions, material and cost, and current artist resume and website address if available. There is no submission fee. Submissions are made through the CAFÉ system. One or more artists will be selected as finalists based on submitted qualifications and will receive a small stipend to produce a site-specific proposal including design, drawings, specifications and budget. Final selection will be made jointly by the Sculpture Owner, Donor, CCGJ and APPC. Contact [email protected] with questions (subject line: Haskell Sculpture Initiative Qualifications) or call 904-398-4915.
