About This Call
The University of Hartford's Hartford Art School Juried Alumni Exhibition is an annual event showcasing work by Hartford Art School alumni. The 2013 guest juror is Judith Tolnick Champa, Editor-in-Chief of Art New England magazine. Alumni are invited to submit up to three works of art in any media created within the past five years. Entry fees are $30 for the first entry and $10 for each additional entry. Alumni who graduated between 2008 and 2013 receive a 50% discount with code NEWALUM. Entries are accepted August 8 through September 12. The jury process takes place September 13-16, and accepted entrants will be notified by email within 5 days.
The exhibition runs October 14 through November 6, 2013 at the University of Hartford's Silpe Gallery. Prizes will be announced at a public reception during Hawktober Weekend (Homecoming and Parents Weekend). Three pieces will be selected to receive cash prizes. Local alumni may hand-deliver work to the Silpe Gallery on Friday, October 11. Non-local alumni may ship work to arrive by Friday, October 11. No early or late deliveries will be accepted. All pieces must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
All submitted work must be ready to install. Works on paper must be neatly matted, mounted, and framed unless intended to be pinned directly to the wall. All framed artworks must have wire hanging devices. The Silpe Gallery reserves the right to return entries that do not meet these criteria. The gallery does not insure works of art and cannot be held liable for loss or damage. Artwork sales will be encouraged, with the Silpe Gallery handling all transactions. A 40% commission will be added to asking prices: 20% benefits the Silpe Gallery and 20% benefits The Hartford Art School Alumni Committee Fund. Artists receive payment for their share after the exhibition ends.
