About This Call

PATH is soliciting Requests for Qualifications (RFQ) from prospective artists to design, fabricate, and install mural artwork for the Harrison PATH Station. This call is only open to artists living or working in the cities of Newark or Harrison, New Jersey, who are age 21 or older and able to complete a contract and required documents with PATH.

The selected artist will be contracted to create two murals on opposite sides of the same space at the Harrison PATH station, located at the stair/escalator area. Each wall measures approximately 25 feet in width and 18 feet in height (gradually shorter). Preferred themes include representations of the historical or cultural aspects of the Harrison community. Materials selected shall be sustainable and require minimal maintenance. Murals can be painted on mural cloth (poly tab) and installed by the artist or painted directly onto the surface. If painted directly on the surface, no aerosols, spray paint, or other materials that create excessive fumes may be used. The total budget for the project is $20,000, which covers all costs including design, fabrication, materials, transportation, and installation.

Applicants must submit a minimum of 4 images (maximum 8) of previously completed work and/or proposal sketches, an artist's statement of interest describing previous relevant experience and vision for the project, and an updated resume or CV. Optional video submissions (up to 2) are permitted. The Arts Selection Committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic quality, demonstrated permanence and durability, appropriateness to the site, and ability to complete the work within the established timeframe. Artist notifications will be made no later than June 9, 2023. A virtual Q&A session will be held April 18, 2023 from 12-1 pm via Zoom.
