Happy Valley Road & Lake Pleasant Parkway Public Art Commission

The Peoria Arts Commission is seeking artists for a public art project for Happy Valley Road & Lake Pleasant Parkway. This is a national call open to artists of all experience levels.

Applications must be received by July 7, 2017 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time. Applicants should submit a statement of interest and qualifications, resume or bibliographical summary, 8-20 JPEG images with accompanying descriptions (including title, year, location, medium, and dimensions). The selection committee will review submissions and provide recommendations to the Peoria Arts Commission, which will then make recommendations to City Council. Finalists' proposals will be displayed at City Hall (8401 W. Monroe Street, Peoria, AZ 85345) and on the City's web pages and social media.

Up to three semi-finalists will be invited to develop complete proposals including drawings, models, and specific information on scale, medium, installation, and budget. Semi-finalists are required to present their final proposals and will receive a stipend to help compensate for out-of-pocket costs such as models, drawings, and travel. Proposals will be evaluated based on artistic merit and quality, the artist's track record with similar commissions, likelihood of completion within the given timeframe and budget, sensitivity to the site and surroundings, and attention to safety, durability, and maintenance. The timeline includes announcement of semi-finalists by August 24, 2017, with artwork completion expected 4-6 months from contract signing.
