About This Call
Handmade & Bound Nashville is an annual festival celebrating artists' books, zines, independent publishing, and printed matter. The juried exhibition "Familiar Relics" invites artists to submit works that speak to both the familiarity and evolution of the book. Book artists occupy a distinct place in the evolution of print, questioning the very concept of the book—its form and intention. As the notion of the book rapidly changes with digital books, downloadable print, and electronic media, book artists take on an increasingly important role in defining new relationships between reader and vessel, content and form.
Artists may submit up to three original artists' books. For each work, submit at least one and no more than three images, with a total not exceeding nine images. If submitting multiple images for a single work, designate one as the "master image" (marked with an asterisk in the title) and up to two supporting images. All images representing a single work must share the same title.
The festival takes place October 5-6 at Watkins College, 2298 Rosa L. Parks Blvd, Nashville, TN 37228. The juried exhibition will be on display October 5-20. Entry fee is $15.00. Accepted work must be received by September 1. Artists are responsible for delivery and return shipping, including insurance. A prepaid waybill for return must be enclosed with each shipping container. Each work must include all necessary display materials (hardware, wires, rods, electrical equipment, display devices). The festival will supply pedestals and cases. For further details, visit www.handmadeboundnashville.com.
