About This Call
StreetSpark, a public art program in partnership with the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Community Foundation, invites artists to design and paint a mural on a concrete levee wall along the Great Miami River in Hamilton, Ohio. The mural site is located along the Great Miami Recreational Trail, directly across from the Spooky Nook Sports Champion Mill, Warehouse Hotel at Champion Mill, and the Champion Mill Conference Center.
Designers should have experience in mural creation and team management. Experience operating scissor lifts and bucket lifts is preferred, though training can be provided. The application process involves a two-phase design process beginning with this Request for Qualifications (RFQ), with selected finalists advancing to a Request for Proposals (RFP). Semi-finalist artists will be notified by October 20, 2023, and mural designs are due by November 10, 2023. Final designs will be selected by February 5, 2024, with mural creation scheduled for Summer 2024.
Application Requirements: Five high-quality JPEG or PNG images, current resume/CV, and one or two signed reference letters on official letterhead. Three or four semi-final artists will each receive a $300 stipend for design development. The final selected artist will receive a $700 stipend plus additional compensation for mural creation at $25/hour for an estimated 40 work days. Equipment, supplies, supporting artist pay and administrative services are managed by StreetSpark. Artists must be 18 or older. Local and national artists are encouraged to apply; any travel or lodging expenses must be covered by the artist. Questions should be directed to Jennifer Acus-Smith, StreetSpark Program Manager, at [email protected].
