About This Call

The Ford Family Foundation's Visual Arts Program awards annual fellowships to Oregon visual artists. The program was established to honor co-founder Hallie Ford's commitment to Oregon and the visual arts, and to help accelerate artistic endeavor and improve Oregon's visual arts ecology.

Beginning in 2015, the Foundation awards up to five (5) $25,000 Fellowships annually to Oregon established visual artists who have demonstrated sophisticated exploration and potential for significant future accomplishment. In addition to the fellowships, the Foundation provides resources to support Fellows including exhibiting opportunities, catalogues of their works, and an annual convening to encourage continued association and peer learning.

Eligibility: Applicants must be practicing visual artists currently producing works in fine and contemporary art and craft (excluding film, video, and animation); full-time Oregon residents for at least 36 months prior to the deadline; 30 years of age or older; with seven or more years of serious professional participation in their medium; not enrolled in a degree-seeking program; and not previously named a Hallie Ford Fellow. Required application materials include an artist statement (3000 characters maximum), resume (up to 3 pages), three professional references, and up to 14 sample images of work created within the past 7-10 years with title, medium, dimensions, price, and year produced for each image. A jury of five arts professionals will review applications and recommend up to five finalists. The Foundation will verify eligibility and check references before awarding fellowships. Fellowship funds are unrestricted. Fellows are expected to document professional accomplishments, provide mid-year and final reports, share experiences with peers and emerging artists, and participate in Fellows convenings and related activities.
