About This Call

The Ford Family Foundation established the Visual Arts Program in 2010 to honor co-founder Hallie Ford's commitment to Oregon and the visual arts. The program supports established Oregon visual artists and invests in Oregon visual arts institutions to accelerate artistic endeavor and improve the state's visual arts ecology.

The Hallie Ford Fellowships in the Visual Arts are awarded annually to established Oregon visual artists who have demonstrated sophisticated exploration and significant future accomplishment potential. A jury of five arts professionals reviews all applications and recommends up to three finalists to the Foundation. Fellowship funding is unrestricted and can be used at the artist's discretion. In addition to the Fellowship award, the Foundation provides resources including in and out-of-state exhibitions, catalogue production, and an annual convening of all Fellows.

Eligibility requires: Oregon residency for at least 36 months prior to the deadline; age 30 or older; seven or more years of active professional participation in visual arts; not currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program; and not previously awarded a Hallie Ford Fellowship. Applicants must submit an artist statement (3,000 characters maximum), a resume (three pages maximum), three professional references, and 10 work samples created in the past 7-10 years. Applications are submitted through the CaFÉ system. The Foundation accepts applications from any visual arts medium including contemporary fine art, craft, social practice, and media arts in installation settings, with the exception of those solely devoted to animation, film, or video. Panelists' names and Fellowship announcements will be disclosed in July/August 2024.
