About This Call

The Ford Family Foundation established the Visual Arts Program in 2010 to honor co-founder Hallie Ford's commitment to Oregon and the visual arts. The program supports established Oregon visual artists and invests in Oregon visual arts institutions to accelerate artistic endeavor and improve the state's visual arts ecology.

The annual Hallie Ford Fellowships in the Visual Arts are awarded to established Oregon visual artists who have demonstrated sophisticated exploration and significant future accomplishment potential. Unrestricted fellowship resources support artists at pivotal career points. In addition to fellowships, the Foundation provides resources including in and out-of-state exhibitions, catalogue production, and an annual convening of all Fellows.

Eligibility: Applicants must be practicing visual artists in contemporary fine art and craft; full-time Oregon residents for at least 36 months prior to the deadline; 30 years of age or older; with seven or more years of serious professional participation in their medium; not enrolled in a degree-seeking program; and not previously named a Hallie Ford Fellow. The Foundation accepts applications from any visual arts medium including social practice and media arts intended for installation, except those solely devoted to animation, film, or video.

Applications require an artist statement (3,000 characters maximum), resume (three pages maximum), three professional references, and 10 work samples created in the past 7-10 years (up to 5 video files allowed). A jury of five arts professionals will review applications and recommend up to three finalists. Panelists' names are disclosed with fellowship announcements in July/August.
