Hallie Ford Fellowship in the Visual Arts

The Ford Family Foundation's Visual Arts Program awards annual Hallie Ford Fellowships in the Visual Arts to Oregon established visual artists who have demonstrated a depth of sophisticated exploration and the potential for significant future accomplishment. The Foundation increased the potential for up to five (5) annual Fellowship awards beginning in 2015. The program was established in recognition of Foundation co-founder Hallie Ford's enduring commitment to Oregon and to honor her interests and legacy in the visual arts. Unrestricted resources, such as these Fellowships, can often be the catalyst for artists poised to take quantum leaps. In addition to the Fellowships, the Foundation provides additional resources to support its Fellows including exhibiting and producing catalogues of their works and hosting an annual convening of all Fellows.

Eligibility: Application is open to any individual Oregon visual artist actively producing new work who meets the following criteria: (1) is a practicing visual artist currently producing works of art in the fields of fine and contemporary art and craft; (2) is a full-time resident of Oregon for at least 36 months prior to the application deadline and remains a resident through the duration of the grant period; (3) is 30 years of age or older at the time of application; (4) provides evidence of seven (7) or more years of serious, active professional participation in his/her medium; (5) is not enrolled in a degree-seeking program at the time of application or during the successive grant period; and (6) has not previously been named a Hallie Ford Fellow. The Foundation accepts applications from artists working in any visual arts medium, with the exception of those predominantly in film, video and animation.

Required application materials include: an artist statement (3,000 characters or fewer), a resume (up to three pages), three professional references, up to 14 JPG images of work created within the past 7-10 years (each under 5MB and 1200 pixels or larger on the longest side), and optionally one video (up to 100 MB). A jury of five arts professionals will review all applications and convene to deliberate on semi-finalists to determine a collective recommendation of up to five finalists. The Foundation will confirm eligibility compliance and check references before awarding the Fellowships. Announcement of Fellowship awards will occur during the first week in June 2018.
