About This Call
The City of Denver's Public Art program seeks to commission a Colorado artist or artist team to create a site-specific public artwork at Denver Public Library - Hadley Branch Library, located at 1890 S. Grove St. in Denver. The selected artist(s) will be encouraged to utilize the library's ideaLAB makerspace and engage with library patrons. The ideaLAB is a free community space featuring a soundproof recording studio, music production equipment, computers with Adobe Creative Cloud and design software, sewing machine, Cricut die-cutting machine, soldering iron, Wacom tablet, scanner, and assorted hand tools.
The art selection panel welcomes two and three-dimensional artwork in all media, materials, and formats, including interactive art, tactile art, light art, sound art, music, or poetry-based art. Possible locations for artwork include the ideaLAB interior space or the exterior south-facing façade entryway. All applicants must consider long-term conservation and maintenance, as public art projects are exposed to physical stresses and vandalism. Projects should be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials and comply with ADA standards.
Eligibility is open to artists or artist teams residing in Colorado. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply. The budget for this commission is approximately $10,000 USD, inclusive of all project costs including design fees, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and travel. Applicants must submit six digital images of previous work, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will choose three to five finalists who will create site-specific proposals and present them to the panel. The selected artist or team will collaborate with Public Art Program staff and the design team to finalize designs for installation. Entry fee: $10.00. Deadline: Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
