About This Call
The Cade Art Gallery at Anne Arundel Community College seeks work that makes a statement or is interventionist in some way. Though urban art is defined as unauthorized art in a public place, the gallery seeks to recreate the feel of the Guerrilla Art revolution within its gallery walls. Artists working in chalk, stencil, sticker art, wheat pasting, fliers, posters, object-leave-behinds, notes, letters, zines, screen printing, drawing, painting, sculpture, appropriation, photography, video projection, art intervention, or any other relevant media are welcome to apply. Works may be "trapped" art that hang on the gallery walls or the walls themselves may be a canvas for a proposed project. Subject matter may range from activism to politics to the playful and imaginative.
Submit up to six digital files (images, audio, video, or a combination) with an entry fee of $22. You may include a 1-2 paragraph statement describing how each piece fits with the theme or outlining a proposed installation. All accepted work must be ready to hang or display. Two-dimensional work must have a braided picture wire on the back. Fragile media should be under Plexiglas. Installation art must be prepared by the artist or have instructions that are easy to follow. The gallery has a flat screen video and access to some types of video equipment, including a projector. All works are insured against physical damage or loss from receipt through designated pickup time. If art is shipped to the gallery, the artist is responsible for shipping costs both to and from the gallery.
Juror: Lisa Gold, Executive Director of Washington Project for the Arts. Exhibition dates: November 10-December 12, 2014. Public Reception: Thursday, November 13, 2014, 6-8 pm. Juror's Talk: Thursday, November 13, 2014, 7 pm. Notifications will be emailed October 15, 2014. Delivery dates for accepted work: October 31 and November 3, 2014. Return/pick up artwork: December 15-16, 2014.
