About This Call

Growing Up Queer in the South, juried by Stacey Kirby and conceived by Parks Busby, is an exhibition featuring artwork about the unique experience of growing up queer in the American South. The exhibition features artwork in multiple mediums from artists currently and formerly living in the South, and aims to share experiences, draw connections, and create conversations.

Artists from across the country are invited to submit work in response to the theme. Cash prizes will be awarded to artists who receive first, second, and third place. Submissions should include 1-4 images. Entry fee is $30.00.

About the Juror: Stacey L. Kirby is a queer artist from the American South based in Durham, North Carolina. For over a decade, Kirby has combined installation and performance to create 'performative interactions' in alternative, private and public spaces. Kirby is a recipient of the ArtPrize Eight Juried Grand Prize (2016), the NC Arts Council Artist Fellowship for Visual Artists (2014-15), an ArtPrize Pitch Night Grant (2016) for North Carolina and an Indies Arts Award from the Independent Weekly. Currently Stacey Kirby is the resident artist working at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

NOTE: This exhibition has been cancelled.
