About This Call
Norman Arts Council, on behalf of The City of Norman, is seeking an artist or team of artists to create a mural on the Silos in Griffin Park located at 1001 E. Robinson Street, Norman, Oklahoma. The project is part of NORMAN FORWARD, a city initiative to renovate and expand quality of life projects including public art, recreational facilities, and parks.
Griffin Park contains seven silos, six exterior towers at 60 feet in height with one interior tower adding 20 feet. The six exterior silos provide approximately 14,760 square feet of surface area (246 linear feet at 60 feet height). The interior silo adds 1,240 square feet (62 linear feet at 20 feet height), for a total of approximately 16,000 square feet. The tops of the silos can also be painted for an additional 2,150 square feet if desired. The mural can cover all of the silos or a portion. The renovated park contains 22 soccer fields and is expected to attract 3,000 children during spring and fall leagues, plus thousands of family members and visitors from regional and national tournaments.
Applications must include: a one-page maximum letter of interest outlining qualifications and general approach to the project; resume/CV; artist bio/statement; three references from public art projects with contact information; and 1-5 high-resolution images of previous work with title, medium, size, date, location, and project details. Open to professional artists with experience working on murals of this scale. Artists identifying with ethnic, cultural, sexual, gender, economic, or ability minorities are encouraged to apply. Budget: $40,000. Entry deadline: 12/16/24 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
