About This Call
Denver Arts & Venues Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original work of art for the Green Valley Ranch Town Center Park, located at 5050 N. Argonne St. Denver, CO 80249. This commission is open to Colorado artists and artist teams working in all media. The commission amount is approximately $50,000 USD.
Green Valley Ranch Town Center Park is a 22-acre Regional Park that includes a lake, soccer, softball, and football fields, a playground, skate park, and an amphitheater. The park is adjacent to a 35,000 square foot recreation center, a Denver Public Library branch, and an elementary and junior academy. The selection panel seeks a unique, bold and playful contemporary artwork that pays homage to the historical west and enhances the diverse Green Valley Ranch Community. The panel is open to artwork in all media and materials, including lights, sound and kinetic artworks, though materials should emphasize the history and location of the site. All applicants must consider long-term conservation and maintenance, as public art projects are exposed to weather, physical stresses, and potential vandalism. Projects should be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials.
Applicants must submit eight digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will choose up to three semifinalists for interviews. If a formal proposal is requested, the artist will receive a $500 honorarium to prepare and present the proposal in person. Semifinalists will be required to submit a Diversity & Inclusiveness Form. The selected artist or team will collaborate with Public Art Program staff and the design team when finalizing designs for installation. This project is open to Colorado artists regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, sexual orientation, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical handicap. Emerging artists who have not completed a permanent public art commission for more than $10,000 are encouraged to apply. The budget of approximately $50,000 USD is inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and any other project-related expenses. Prevailing wage requirements apply for all work done on city property.
