Greeley Family Funplex Mural

The City of Greeley is seeking an artist or artist team to create a new mural for the Family Funplex pool area. The previous mural has been painted over and a new design is needed. Mural execution is scheduled for April 2022 to coincide with a pool renovation project. The design proposals do not need to cover the entire wall, as the project may be extended in stages over multiple years.

The budget for artwork is not to exceed $25,000 and will cover all necessary elements including design, materials, and installation. The artist must determine and state the square footage they can paint within the allotted budget. The theme must be family friendly, with themes including water, fun, play, or sports encouraged. Compositions should be colorful and attractive to both kids and adults. The wall dimensions are approximately 100 linear feet long (with a corner dividing at 80' and 20') and 30' in height. The site has limitations and challenges that may not be suitable for traditional scaffolding. Artists must be able to work with high humidity, caustic chemicals, and splash-prone areas.

Artists will be selected based on strength of concept and sketch proposal, site appropriateness, and demonstration of past work experience with painted murals. Preliminary color sketches are required, but not detailed finished drawings. Once contracted, the selected artist will work collaboratively with a project team to develop the final design. The artist must demonstrate good collaborative skills, creativity, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities. Final design work must be original and include all details necessary for installation. After the final design is accepted by the Greeley Art Commission and payment is made, the City will retain all rights to the final design. Art installation must be completed by April 29. Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2022, and artists will be notified of jury status by March 16, 2022. Eligibility is open to all Colorado artists and artist groups.
