Great Hall / Jeppesen Terminal Project

Denver International Airport is seeking artists and artist teams to create public artwork for the Great Hall renovation in the Jeppesen Terminal. The selection panel seeks applicants with a successful history of public art to propose artwork that serves as a statement piece passengers will know by name. The airport embraces its bold and unexpected art collection and seeks something memorable that expresses the brand and personality of the airport.

The Great Hall will serve as a warm welcome to Denver and Colorado, with construction beginning in July 2018 and completion by end of 2021. Two potential sites have been identified within the Great Hall: the North Decision Point Overlook and the South Landside Plaza Vestibule. Artists may consider one or both sites. The selection panel intends to select one artist or artist team for the full $4,000,000 USD commission. Artwork must consider natural and artificial lighting, maintain visibility of wayfinding signage, and not hinder passenger flow or sight lines. Artwork cannot be suspended from the existing canopy or replace or modify existing glass curtain walls. Materials should be highly durable and low-maintenance. The airport serves approximately 160,000 passengers daily.

Applicants must submit up to ten digital images of 3-5 past examples of public artwork, a résumé, and a statement of interest via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will choose up to five semifinalists for interviews. Semifinalists will receive an all-inclusive stipend of up to $4,000 to prepare and present their proposal in person. The project is open internationally to all artists and collaborative groups. Artists are not required to have previous public art experience. The budget is inclusive of all costs: design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, and contingency. Prevailing wage requirements apply for all work done on city property.
