About This Call
The Artist-in-Residence Program at Grand Canyon National Park offers professional artists in all disciplines—traditional, folk, or contemporary—the opportunity to spend three weeks on either the North or South Rim in housing provided by the National Park Service, in exchange for three self-designed public programs. Application fee is $30.00 per rim.
The North Rim program runs May–October with 4–6 artist opportunities per season. The South Rim program is year-round with an October–September calendar. Artists work in all media including visual arts, photography, film, writing, performing arts, and conceptual forms. Proposals should be site-specific to Grand Canyon National Park and support the park's interpretative themes. Artists whose work addresses conservation, indigenous peoples rights, water and land use rights, and preservation of public lands are of particular interest.
The North Rim offers wilderness solitude with artists residing in a small rustic cabin on the rim. The South Rim features a second-story apartment in the historic Verkamp's Visitor Center overlooking the canyon. No stipend or financial support is available. Artists must provide their own materials and equipment. Selection is based on artistic excellence as demonstrated by submitted work samples. A panel of artistic genre specialists, art administrators, educators, and working artists will review applications. For more information, contact [email protected] (North Rim) or [email protected] (South Rim).
