About This Call
The City of Goodyear seeks to establish a pre-qualified list of artists for a series of temporary and permanent public art commissions ranging in budget from $10,000 to $358,534. The public art projects will be integrated into the Goodyear Civic Square, located at the Northwest Corner of 150th Street and McDowell Road. When completed in 2022, Goodyear Civic Square will house the City of Goodyear's City Hall, a public library, public park, an office building, and parking garage. Artists will be selected for individual commissions and to work collaboratively as part of small teams to develop new site-specific projects. Project commission types will include temporary, permanent site-specific works, kinetic and interactive work, and new technologies.
The stakeholders seek a public artist that designs works creating a transformative, site-responsive environment with "destination" appeal that encourages repeat visits and explores how art moves through space or encourages visitors to transition through an area to experience the artwork. Inclusion of light and the possibility of suspended elements is encouraged. This prospectus is open to all artists internationally regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical handicap. Artists working in any media are eligible to apply. Prior public art experience is not required. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply. A small group of artists will be invited to develop preliminary conceptual designs for an honorarium.
Applicants must submit six digital images of previously completed artworks, a statement of interest (2000 character maximum), and a one-to-two page résumé via the CaFÉ online application system. There is no application fee. For kinetic, sound, or media works, submit links to work uploaded online such as YouTube or Vimeo. The call closes May 2020, with design development beginning May 2020, fabrication and installation beginning January 2021, and final installations complete by May 2022. Contact Stephen Pendl at [email protected] with questions about the project.
