About This Call
The Goldwell Open Air Museum is accepting entries for the inaugural Bullfrog Biennial at the Goldwell Open Air Museum, Red Barn Art Center, and nearby satellite spaces. This call is open to artists of all ages, emerging and established, working in the Southwest Area (Nevada, California, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico). All mediums are accepted including painting, sculpture, photography, video, performance, mixed media, and installation art. The theme invites artists to explore how our world is constantly shifting and our landscape is forever changed, whether addressing the literal landscape or responding to flux in the environment. Artwork submissions must have been completed within the last 2 years (2017-2019).
The Goldwell Open Air Museum is an 8-acre outdoor sculpture park near the ghost town of Rhyolite, Nevada, located 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas near the entrance to Death Valley and the town of Beatty, NV. The site includes the Red Barn Art Center, a 2,250-square-foot multi-purpose studio and exhibition space. The museum is a nonprofit organized in 2000 after the death of Belgian artist Albert Szukalski, who created the site's first sculptures in 1984. It is a member of the Alliance of Artists Communities.
Entry fee is $15 per entrant (free for invited members). Work sample requirements: minimum 3 images, maximum 6 images; 0-1 video; total 3-7 samples. The jury process will be conducted the week of July 8th by show curator Sierra Slentz and Goldwell Open Air Museum Board Members. Exhibition reception and mural unveiling is October 25, 10:00 AM - midnight. Exhibition runs October 26-27, with art pick-up beginning October 27 at noon.
