About This Call

Glass Currents is an inaugural juried fine art exhibition presented by the Glass Alliance of Northern California and Association of Clay and Glass Artists at the Richmond Art Center. The exhibition showcases contemporary glass art, honoring the Bay Area's early roots in the American Studio Glass Movement while providing a contemporary view of where glass art has evolved today. The exhibition is open to emerging and established artists who create work primarily from glass.

Eligibility: Artists must be a minimum of 18 years old and connected to California by birth, residency, or degree from an accredited institution. Collaborative work from a maximum of 2 artists is eligible if both meet requirements. All artwork must use glass as the main medium in 2D or 3D form. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 24" x 24"; three-dimensional work must not exceed 22" w x 22" d x 35" h and weigh no more than 50 lbs. No video or installation works accepted. All work must be original design, architecturally stable, and gallery ready for installation. Hanging hardware with instructions must accompany 2D work.

Entry fee is $25 ($20 for members of GLANC or ACGA). Artists may submit 1-3 images. Artwork drop-off is May 26-27, 2017, or shipped artwork must arrive May 17-24, 2017. The exhibition runs June 14 – August 19, 2017, with opening reception June 10, 2017 (5-7 PM). All artwork must be for sale; the Richmond Art Center retains 40% commission on sales. Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance during transit. The Richmond Art Center insures work on display up to $5,000. Juror: JoAnn Edwards, Executive Director of the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design.
