Glacier National Park Artist-In-Residence

The Artist-in-Residence Program at Glacier National Park offers professional artists the opportunity to pursue their artistic discipline while being surrounded by the park's inspiring landscape. The program seeks professional artists whose work is related to the park's interpretative themes and supports the mission of the National Park Service.

Residency sessions are available June 1-28, 2014; July 6–August 2, 2014; and August 31–September 27, 2014. Selected artists will receive rent-free use of a furnished cabin on the shores of Lake McDonald for four weeks. The lodging is rustic with no cell phone service or internet. Basic cooking equipment and bedding are provided, as well as access to the park library. Artists must be self-sufficient and provide all necessary art supplies. No stipend is available, and artists must provide their own transportation.

During their residency, artists must present several public programs related to their experience as artist-in-residence, which can include demonstrations, talks, exploratory walks, or performances. Within six months of completing the residency, artists must provide digital images of selected work representing their experience. The park has the right to use these digital images in park publications, websites, and presentations for education and outreach, with the artist's name prominently cited. Entry fee: $18.00. Work samples may include up to 4 images, 2 audio files, and/or 2 video files (maximum 4 total samples).
