About This Call
The City of Grand Junction and the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture are seeking an artist to create an original mural for the Child Watch area at the new Community Recreation Center located at Matchett Park, 2836 Recreation Way. The mural should be lighthearted and utilize the color palette specified in the site details.
The mural design must be original and socially acceptable. The artwork should cultivate a creative and entertaining environment for children ages 14 and under, complement the blue circular acoustic panels and existing wall colors (SW 9140 Blustery Sky, SW 7009 Pearly White, and SW 9019 Golden Plumeria), and complement the river-designed floor, blue sky, and sun aesthetic. Materials must be long-lasting and resistant to vandalism or scratches, with a cleanable and protective coating to extend longevity. Specific wall dimensions are provided in the site details.
The project is open to all artists residing in Colorado, age 21 and over. Artists must demonstrate images of original creations similar in size and theme to this project. Selection will be based on past artwork experience, style, concept, ability to comply with the timeline, and references. The budget for this project cannot exceed $14,000. If selected, the artist is responsible for all costs involved in design and creation, including paint, supplies, scaffolding, ladders, tools, protective coverings, and equipment. Artists must also protect all flooring, fixtures, and adjacent non-painted areas during installation. The submission deadline is February 22, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artists will be notified on March 27, 2026, with painting scheduled for July 2026 and an August 1 hard deadline. Applications must include a letter of interest (not to exceed one page), resume (not to exceed two pages), one-page design description, concept sketch(es), and not to exceed five images of original representative work in .JPG or .JPEG format (maximum 1024 x 768 pixels, no larger than 1mb each).
