Give and Take

The Los Angeles Printmaking Society, a national nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, California, is dedicated to the encouragement of printmaking and supportive of public and private collections of fine prints. The Give & Take exhibition and exchange portfolio is an open call to showcase the work of printmakers nationwide. All artists who submit print editions will be exhibited. Both LAPS members and non-members are welcome. LAPS encourages the inclusion of a wide range of approaches to printmaking, encompassing the traditional to the nontraditional/experimental.

The Give & Take exhibition is a way for printmakers to give back to the LAPS printmaking community through the funds raised by the sale of prints, and for printmakers to receive work of fellow printmakers through the exchange portfolio of 5 prints returned to each artist. Each portfolio submitted will include ten 8 inch x 10 inch prints. 1 print will be displayed at LA Print Space and for sale, 4 additional prints will be retained by LAPS for sale during the show or at future events to raise funds for programming that supports printmaking outreach. An asking price of $30 for one print and $50 for two prints will allow for the prints to be attainable to many collectors. 5 prints will be collated into exchange portfolios that go back to the artists. For artists submitting multiple print editions, 5 prints will be returned for each edition submitted.

Eligibility is open to all artists residing in the United States. Student work done under supervision of an instructor is acceptable. Original works in all editionable printmaking media are acceptable, including digital and non-traditional. LAPS will not consider traditional photography, offset reproductions, or reproductions of art originally produced in other media. Each artist can submit up to five editions. The paper size must be 8x10 inches in a standard edition of 10. Prints that do not adhere to the paper size will not be exhibited or returned. Entry fee is $15.00 for the first edition submitted and $10.00 for each additional edition. Work must arrive unframed and unmatted by March 4, 2014. The exhibition runs March 18th – May 9th, 2014 at LA Print Space. The opening reception is Tuesday, March 18, 2014, 5:00 – 8:30 pm. The exchange portfolio of 5 prints will be mailed within one month of the exhibition closing.
