Girl Art Now

Hera Gallery is seeking 52 works for Girl Art Now, a virtual exhibition celebrating artists who identify as girls and create art. The exhibition asks: What does it mean to be a girl? What does it mean to be a girl who makes art? What does it mean to be a girl who makes art NOW?

In 2024, Hera Gallery celebrates 50 years as one of the first women's cooperative galleries in the United States, dedicated to gender equity in the art world. According to the National Museum of Women in the Arts, only 13.7% of living artists represented by galleries in Europe and North America are women, with less than 4% reflecting trans women and women of color. Girl Art Now aims to empower all who feel like a girl and make art, celebrating, protesting, and advocating for the complex and diverse lives of girl artists.

The exhibition will run throughout 2024, with all selected works displayed virtually on heragallery.org. Each week, Hera Gallery will feature one artist and their work on social media. Participating artists will have the opportunity to speak in virtual artist talks hosted by the gallery. Submissions are open September 1 - December 1, 2023. The application fee is $15 for up to 3 images, with $5 for each additional image (up to 10 total). Artist members and those in financial need should contact [email protected] for a discounted application fee. All US artists working in any media are eligible. High-quality images of work must be submitted.
