Gillette College Art in Public Buildings

Gillette College, a 2-year community college operated by the Northern Wyoming Community College District, is seeking artwork for the Pronghorn Center, a new two-story building that will house Athletics, Student Government, Veteran's Services, and academic programs. The building features two main entrances: a southern public entrance with approximately 40 feet ceiling height adjacent to a parking lot, and a northeast campus entrance with approximately 14 feet ceiling height featuring a monumental staircase. The exterior includes corrugated metal and antelope head motifs, while the interior features reclaimed barn wood accents.

The selection committee is seeking work for one or both entrances that is well integrated into the building and represents the dynamism, energy, and vibrancy of the college and community. Proposed work may include ceiling-mounted pieces or mobiles, 2D work, 3D relief sculpture, kinetic sculpture, wall-mounted work, or other non-traditional styles and mediums. Kinetic or mobile work and work incorporating lighting elements are specifically encouraged. All artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site-appropriate, and easy to maintain. This call is only open to Wyoming artists.

Up to $38,250 is available for artwork, including all design fees, material costs, labor, installation, and identification plaques. Artists may propose work for one or both entrances, with special consideration given to works that complement one another. Initial application materials are due May 15, 2016. The selection committee will review proposals in May, and select artists may be asked to submit complete formal design presentations in June 2016 with modest financial compensation.
