Get the Message: Words and Images

Get the Message: Words and Images is a virtual exhibition featuring artwork connected to and/or inspired by a literary or written work, excerpt, or quote. Artists are asked to share a quote or passage from the work, song, or article that will be exhibited with their work. All media will be considered, including painting, printmaking, photography, drawing, sculpture, book art, video, and sound art. Only artwork created during the past four years will be accepted.

Exhibition dates are November 14 – December 31, 2020. The juror is Dewitt Cheng, an art writer and critic based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Online judging takes place October 1-8, 2020, with artists notified on October 10, 2020. The entry deadline is September 30, 2020 at 10:59 PM PDT.

Artists may submit up to 6 artworks with one application. Entry fee is $35 for non-members or $25 for Arts Benicia members for up to 3 artworks; an additional $5 fee is required for each additional entry, up to a maximum of 6. Artwork must be for sale. Arts Benicia retains 40% of art sales and mails a check to the artist within 30 days of exhibition closing for 60% of the sales price. Selected artists will be asked to submit their bio, artist statement, and resume to be linked to the Arts Benicia exhibition website. All artists with accepted artwork must provide a signed exhibition contract to participate.
