GENESIS: Political Art Publication and Exhibition

Dab Art announces the 2019 winter installment of GENESIS, a quarterly arts publication and online exhibition. This journal visually explores the issue of immigration, focusing on etymology and heritage from an artist's perspective. The U.S. is a country shaped by immigration, and every person who currently resides in America has an immigration story. GENESIS will feature artworks and essays that embody the stories, struggles and successes of immigration.

Entries will be juried and selected based on technical application, originality and concept. Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media and new genres. Proposals may include multiple disciplines. Written material is not mandatory but short stories and essays from selected artists are welcome. Submissions should include 5-20 images. Entry fee is $40.00, with an additional $5.00 media fee for extra images.

The published journal will be a high-quality, 6x9-inch, soft-covered book. All exhibiting artists will receive a gratis paperback edition from Dab Art; a hardback book will be available for purchase. Journals will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. All featured artists will be exhibited in an online show running January 1 - March 31, 2019, hosted by DabArt.me and visible on ARTSY, an internationally recognized curated art market platform. All exhibiting artists receive a gratis paperback edition of GENESIS. Two cash honorariums will be awarded: $300 to the artist selected for the cover and $100 for the juror's pick. The cover artist will also receive a gratis hardback edition. Call closes October 31, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Selected artists will be notified November 12. Journal release is February 1, with a release party for all featured artists.
