About This Call
The Farmington Museum announces the 20th annual Gateway to Imagination: A National Juried Art Competition, held at the Farmington Museum, 3041 E. Main St., Farmington, New Mexico, 87402. The exhibition runs September 23 - December 7, 2019. This national juried competition is open to all artists eighteen years or older residing in the United States. Entries must be artist's original work completed after January 1, 2017, and cannot have been shown in previous Gateway to Imagination juried shows. All types of artwork will be considered, including ceramics, decorative arts, installations, and digital media (playable on a monitor). No theme is required.
Artists may submit up to three artworks per application, with the option to submit multiple applications. The entry fee is $45.00 per application. Work samples must include a minimum of 1 and maximum of 6 images in JPEG format (5 MB maximum file size, minimum 1920 pixels on longest side), up to 1 audio file, and up to 3 video files. Artwork must fit within a standard double door (70" wide by 96" high), weigh no more than 100 pounds, be gallery ready with dry paint, and be appropriately wired and ready to hang. A 25% commission will be charged on works sold during the exhibition.
Awards include: Best of Show ($1,000), First Place ($600), Second Place ($400), Third Place ($300), Director's Choice ($250), Curator's Choice ($250), two Northwest New Mexico Arts Council Choice Awards ($200 each), and six Honorable Mentions ($75 each), plus up to $1,000 in Purchase Awards. Melanie Yazzie, a professor of Art Practices and Head of Printmaking at University of Colorado Boulder, will jury the exhibition. The application deadline is August 2, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification of acceptance will be sent by August 20, 2019. Artists must confirm participation by August 27, 2019. A prepaid return shipping label must be included with incoming shipment. If artwork has not been picked up or return shipping has not been paid by December 20, 2019, the artwork will become the property of the Farmington Museum.
