Gateway Sculpture Commission - Caporella Park, Tamarac, FL

The City of Tamarac, Florida is seeking to commission an artist or artist team to create a vibrant sculpture for the entrance to Caporella Park's parking lot located at 5200 Prospect Road, Tamarac, Florida. The sculpture should be vibrant, colorful, and impactful to pedestrians and passerby traffic both day and night. The sculpture must be between 8-10 feet tall and will be the first art experience when visitors enter the parking lot.

The City prefers sculptures with the following elements: uniqueness and vibrant colors that represent Tamarac and distinguish it from other cities; communication of the city's core identity as "The City For Your Life" and the unifying vision of "One Tamarac"; symbolization of Tamarac's welcoming, friendly, and diverse community. The sculpture must be durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance, designed to withstand South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun and seasonal heavy rain. The design must be approved by the City Commission.

The call is open to all professional artists and artist teams nationwide with experience implementing work in the public realm with government agencies. The selection process will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, up to three artists will be shortlisted by the Selection Committee based on experience, credentials, style, and previous work. In the second phase, each shortlisted artist will receive a $1,500 stipend for development of a detailed proposal with conceptual design options. The project budget is $45,000, which includes all costs such as research, design, materials, permitting, fabrication, installation, photography, insurance, travel, and labor.
