About This Call
The City of Fort Collins Art in Public Places Program is seeking submissions from artists and artist teams to develop proposals for a temporary art installation at The Gardens on Spring Creek, the community botanic garden of Fort Collins, Colorado. The artwork will be on display for 6-9 months and will be installed by June 2021. The goal is to create a unique art experience that enhances the gardens' natural beauty, promotes it as a place of healing and respite, and inspires guests and the community. The resulting installation can be a site-specific art installation or a display of existing art piece(s), either as one large-scale work or a series of pieces at multiple locations within the gardens. Eight concrete sculpture pads are available for use throughout the site.
The total project budget is approximately $17,000, which includes all fees for consulting with the project team, design, execution, transportation, site preparation, installation and deinstallation of artworks, project signage, and travel expenses. Artists and artist teams must be at least 18 years of age and legally residing in and authorized to work in the United States. All media appropriate to the project will be considered. Design and installation must account for the work being situated in a secured public location subject to the elements and potential vandalism, and must respect the natural environment.
Application materials must include: a 5,000 character letter of intent describing your interest and proposed installation (including materials, scale, concept, and any past similar public art projects); a current resume (maximum 2 pages for individuals or 2 pages for teams or one page per team member); three professional references with names, titles, phone numbers, and email addresses; and four to eight digital images of proposed work or renderings with relevant completed work from the past ten years. Images must include artist names, title, date, media, dimensions, location, and cost of artwork. A selection committee will review materials and make a final recommendation, with the APP Board giving final approval. Upon selection and final design approval, the artist must complete a contract with the City of Fort Collins.
