Garbled Guise: Contemporary Wearable Art

The Indianapolis Art Center announces a Call for Entry to Garbled Guise, a juried exhibition featuring contemporary wearable art. This exhibition highlights the world of wearable artworks today and the richness found in the wide variety of techniques, styles, and aesthetics involved. The exhibition features works in a variety of media ranging from traditional processes (fibers, textiles, jewelry, and metalwork) to contemporary and new media processes (wearable sculpture, performance art, and new media). Cash awards total $2,000.00, with Best in Show at $1,000.00 and two Honorable Mention awards at $500.00 each.

Artists may submit constructed, wearable art objects, or photo or video documentation of wearable works or performances involving wearable art objects for consideration. All media are eligible, although work must have a tie-in to wearable artworks. 2D artwork must not weigh more than 250 pounds. The Art Center has a variety of wearable art supports on-hand for display including jewelry displays, neck forms, and mannequins. Installation artists should contact the Art Center before applying to ensure compatibility of space. It is the artist's responsibility to ensure clarity for intended display methods of submitted artworks.

Entry fee is $35 for submission of two pieces, with $5 additional for each submission up to 6 pieces. Each artist or artist team may submit up to six pieces of work for jurying. Submissions must include 2-6 total work samples (images and/or video). This exhibit is open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in the United States. Work must be made within the last two years and cannot have been previously shown at the Art Center. All work must be original and made by the artist or artist team. Collaborative works made between artists are eligible. Application deadline is February 15, 2024. Acceptance notifications will be sent by end of day February 17, 2024. Exhibition opens March 25, 2024 and closes May 26, 2024. Exhibition reception is Friday, April 5th, 5-8pm.
