About This Call
The Arts Council of Lake Oswego invites artist submissions for Gallery Without Walls, an outdoor public art exhibition in its twenty-first year. Artists may submit up to three completed works or proposals for new works to be completed by August 2021. Artwork will be displayed throughout the downtown business district for a two-year exhibition period from summer 2021 to summer 2023. Submissions are evaluated by a Selection Committee based on overall quality and merit. Submissions from emerging, mid-career, established, and collaborative artists are encouraged. Works of various media including sculpture, new media, projections, and murals are sought. Artwork created within the last three years is highly encouraged.
Up to fifteen artists will be selected to display in Lake Oswego. Selected artists receive a $1,000 honorarium and are eligible for an annual People's Choice purchase award of up to $20,000 (with a 30% gallery fee). Selected artists are invited to the annual Gallery Without Walls Celebration in September. Works will be available for sale during the exhibition period with a 30% gallery fee paid to the Arts Council. Sold artworks must remain on display for the contracted exhibition period. Selected artists enter into a two-year contract with the City of Lake Oswego.
Work sample requirements: minimum 3 images, maximum 10; audio 0-3; video 0-3; total samples 3-16. Artworks are generally displayed on concrete plinths of varying sizes. Limited options exist for earth mounting in parks or greenspace, and building facades for murals or projections. A limited number of plinth locations have electrical capability. The Arts Council's contractor will install all works. Artists must attend installation or send a representative. The City maintains liability insurance during the exhibition period. Artists are responsible for delivery and attendance at installation and de-installation. Artwork cannot be shipped. The Arts Council reserves the right to reject work that differs from the original proposal or does not meet standards of durability, safety, and quality. Artists in the current 2020-2022 exhibition are ineligible to apply.
