About This Call

Gallery of Hermosa invites local, national, and international artists to participate in "The Spirit of Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane)," a special exhibition running April 5 - May 11, 2025, with an opening reception on April 5 from 5-8pm. The exhibition commemorates the Gallery of Hermosa's one-year anniversary, the gallery owner's mother's 84th birthday, and the remarkable legacy of Japanese culture. This exhibit celebrates cultural heritage and the transformative power of art to connect people across generations, with works reflecting themes of resilience, the legacy of the Japanese diaspora, and symbols of renewal encouraged.

Eligible works include 2D pieces in all mediums and smaller 3D sculptures, including paintings in oil, watercolor, mixed media, pastel, acrylic, pen and ink, sumi-e, pencil drawings, and works in ceramic, bronze, marble, stone, and other mediums. All genres are welcome, including landscapes, figurative, portraits, abstract, surreal, still life, impressionism, expressionism, pop art, realism, conceptual art, digital art, and photography. Wall-mounted pieces must have wire across the back; framed works over 16"x20" with glass cannot be accepted (plexiglass is acceptable). Sculptural works up to 16" in height are welcome, with 3D works under 12 inches tall that can stand on a pedestal considered. All sizes and price points are welcome; artwork must be available for sale and be high-quality, original art only. Photography must be unique or part of a limited edition series.

Submission Details: Artists may submit up to three images for a non-refundable entry fee of $20 for the first image and $5 for each additional image. Detail shots count toward the image total. Include an artist statement providing insight into the inspiration behind your work and connection to the theme, along with a brief description for each artwork. Include your Instagram handle and website URL. The exhibition will be juried by a panel of art professionals led by Mike Saijo and Kimie Joe, evaluating submissions on artistic quality and craftsmanship, relevance to themes of resilience, renewal, and Japanese heritage, and innovation and ability to inspire or provoke thought. All accepted artwork will be offered for sale during the exhibition at the gallery and online. Artists are responsible for delivering or shipping artwork to and from the gallery; dates will be provided.
