About This Call
The City of Auburn is seeking artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional or small three-dimensional media to exhibit their work at three City of Auburn gallery spaces during 2018. Galleries are located within City operated buildings: City Hall (25 W Main), Auburn Senior Center/Cheryl Sallee Gallery (808 Ninth St. SE), and Community and Event Center (910 Ninth Street SE). Artists working in diverse mediums are encouraged to apply, including printmaking, painting, drawing, mixed media, textiles, mosaic, glass, recycled materials, photography, calligraphy, collage, fiber art, ceramics, jewelry, and metal sculptures.
The City Hall Gallery is an open space in the main lobby with professional Arakawa hanging system and gallery lighting. Exhibits are 6 weeks long accommodating approximately 20-30 artworks. Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. The Cheryl Sallee Gallery features an Arakawa hanging system and professional lighting with 8-week exhibits of approximately 8-10 artworks. Hours: 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, plus various evenings and weekends. The Community and Event Center gallery is approximately 26 linear feet with professional Arakawa hanging system. Exhibits are 6 weeks accommodating approximately 15-20 artworks. Hours: 8am-9pm Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm Saturday.
Eligibility is open to established and emerging artists and artist groups with no location restrictions. All work must be delivered and picked up in person and must be mounted or framed and ready to hang with wires or D-rings. Applicants must submit up to 10 representative images (minimum 3), a resume detailing exhibition history, an artist statement, and indicate preferences for exhibition timeframe and gallery location. Artists are required to sign an "Agreement to Exhibit" liability waiver. The exhibit spaces are not secured and there is no insurance for submitted objects. Artists are encouraged to offer works for sale; the City takes no commission. A selection panel including City of Auburn Arts Commissioners, artists, and community representatives will select artists for all three gallery spaces. The first available exhibit date is January 2018. Installation dates will be assigned by City staff who will also install artwork and labels. Exhibits are publicized through city press releases, gallery brochures, and the City website.
