About This Call
The City of Auburn is seeking artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional media to exhibit their work at three City of Auburn gallery spaces during 2017. Galleries are located within City operated buildings: City Hall (25 W Main), Auburn Senior Center/Cheryl Sallee Gallery (808 Ninth St. SE), and Community and Event Center (910 Ninth Street SE). Artists working in diverse mediums are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to: paint, ink, pencil, mixed media, textiles, mosaic, glass, recycled materials, photography, calligraphy, collage, and fiber art.
The City Hall Gallery is an open space in the main lobby with professional Arakawa hanging system and gallery lighting. Exhibits are 4 to 5 weeks and accommodate approximately 20-30 artworks total. Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. The Cheryl Sallee Gallery features 8-week solo shows of approximately 8-10 artworks with Arakawa hanging system and professional lighting. Hours: 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, plus various evenings and weekends. The Community and Event Center gallery is approximately 26 linear feet with professional Arakawa hanging system. Exhibits are 4-8 weeks and accommodate approximately 15-20 artworks total. Hours: 8am-9pm Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm Saturday.
Eligibility: Professional and emerging artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional media. All work must be delivered and picked up in person. Artwork via post is not accepted. All work must be mounted or framed and ready to hang with wires. Application requires up to ten (10) representative images (minimum 3), resume detailing exhibition history and/or artist statement, and preferences for timeframe and gallery location. Artists are required to sign an "Agreement to Exhibit" liability waiver. The exhibit spaces are not secured, and there is no insurance for objects submitted for exhibition. Artists may wish to carry their own insurance. Artists are encouraged to offer works for sale; the City of Auburn does not take a commission on sales. Exhibits are publicized through city-generated press releases, gallery brochure, and the City's website. A reception can be scheduled based on artist interest and availability. Application deadline: Monday, October 17, 2016.
