About This Call
The City of Auburn is seeking professional and emerging artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional media to exhibit their work at two City of Auburn gallery spaces during 2016. Artists working in diverse mediums are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to: paint, ink, pencil, mixed media, textiles, mosaic, glass, recycled materials, photography, calligraphy, collage, and fiber art.
Auburn City Hall Gallery is located at 25 W Main in the main lobby and hallway leading to City Council Chambers. The gallery features professional Arakawa hanging system and gallery lighting with ample natural light. Exhibits are 4 to 5 weeks and can be individual or group shows accommodating approximately 20-30 artworks total. Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. The Cheryl Sallee Gallery Wall at the Auburn Sr. Activity Center, 808 Ninth St. SE, is located just inside the main entrance. This gallery features Arakawa hanging system and professional gallery lighting. Exhibits are 8-week solo shows of approximately 8-10 artworks. Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, including various evenings and weekends based on building rental activity.
All work must be mounted or framed and ready to hang with wires. Work must be delivered and picked up in person by the artist or artist representative; mail delivery is not accepted. A selection panel of approximately 5 people including City of Auburn Arts Commissioners, artists, and community-at-large representatives will select artists for both gallery spaces. Artists are required to sign an "Agreement to Exhibit" liability waiver. The exhibit spaces are not secured and there is no insurance for objects submitted for exhibition. Artists are encouraged to offer works for sale; the City does not take a commission on sales. Exhibits are publicized through city-generated press releases, gallery brochure, and the City's website. Installation dates and times will be assigned by City of Auburn staff, who will also install artwork and labels. Application deadline: October 7, 2015. Contact: Maija McKnight, Arts Coordinator, [email protected], 253-804-5043.
