About This Call
Gallatin Art Crossing (GAC) invites artists to submit work for the 2017-18 exhibition and installation program. Selected pieces will be displayed in downtown Bozeman, Montana for one year (August 2017-August 2018) and will be available for sale during that time. The submission fee is $15 per piece, with an application deadline of June 10, 2017. Installation and reception will take place in August. All pieces must be ready to install and sustainable outdoors without maintenance for one year.
Artwork may be in any media and must be durable and able to withstand the elements and interaction with the public. Works may be functional or non-functional. Sculptures must demonstrate structural soundness, safety, and stability for an unsupervised general audience, fit into a downtown setting, and include a substantial base plate or flanges that allow for 5/8" or 3/4" bolted connections. GAC will anchor all sculptures to preexisting concrete pads using 1/2" hardware. GAC will provide signage identifying the artwork and feature the artist on their website and mobile tour. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend (distributed within 30 days after the opening reception) and hotel and meals for out-of-town artists upon request. Artists are responsible for transportation and installation/decommissioning of their work.
GAC will handle all sales to the public and retain 35% of the agreed-upon price, with the commission decreasing by 5% per year the piece remains on display (up to 3 years, after which the commission remains at 20%). A People's Choice Award of $500 will be given to the winning piece, selected through online voting. The program is open to professional and emerging artists or artist teams living or working in the United States and Canada. Applicants may submit up to three sculptures. Artists are responsible for insurance coverage during transit and installation, and for maintenance and repairs during the exhibition. Artists must release GAC and the City of Bozeman from liability for property damage or other damages arising from the public display of artwork.
