GALEX 56 National Juried Competition

GALEX, combining the words Galesburg and Exhibition, is a national juried competition celebrating its 56th year. Open to artists working in all mediums and residing in the United States, the competition will award over $2,500 in prizes and select over 75 works for exhibition. Juror Claire Ashley, a Scottish-born, Chicago-based artist and faculty member at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, will make selections based on work that has personality expressed through formal, material, or conceptual attributes.

Eligibility requirements include: all work must have been completed within the last three years and not previously shown at Galesburg Community Arts Center; art must be original work by the artist; work cannot exceed 100 pounds or be unstable; two-dimensional work may not exceed five feet in either length or width and must be wired and ready to hang with Plexiglas preferred for framed work; no work will be suspended from the ceiling; one entry of up to three pieces per artist. Submit 1-3 images of your work.

Entry fee is $25 for non-members or $20 for current Galesburg Community Arts Center members. Awards include: Blick Art Materials Purchase Award ($1,000), Lonnie Eugene Stewart Award of Excellence ($600), Merit Award ($400), Medallion Award ($300), Robert Reed Memorial Sculpture Award ($150), and Kent Leasure Memorial Fine Print Award ($100). Exhibition runs April 1-May 5, 2023. Artwork must be received by March 18 at noon. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs; the Arts Center prefers prepaid return shipping labels.
