About This Call
The Oregon Arts Commission offers non-matching Individual Artist Fellowships of $3,000 to eligible Oregon artists. There is no pre-determined number of fellowships to be awarded in each discipline. The Commission and its review panel(s) may determine that no fellowships be awarded. The Arts Commission designates a special, honorary Joan Shipley Award to one Fellow, recognizing the great Oregon arts leader Joan Shipley, who passed away in 2011. A founding board member of PICA and the Bonnie Bronson Trust, Shipley was a collector, philanthropist and supporter of many arts and humanities organizations.
Eligible applicants must be current Oregon residents who have been residents for one full year prior to the application deadline, and must not have received an Oregon Arts Commission Fellowship in the five years prior to submission. Full-time students and non-professionals who produce art as a hobby are not eligible. Each fellowship will be awarded to only one individual artist.
Fellowships are awarded based on the aesthetic quality of submitted artwork, the artist's sustained professional achievement, and the potential for the artist's future contribution to the field. Applications must include exactly 10 examples of past work (up to 3 may be moving image files in formats: 3GP, WMV, AVI, MOV, ASF, MPG, MP4, M2T, MKV, M2TS). Still images must be no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72dpi and less than 5 MB. Applicants must also submit an artist statement (2000 characters or less) describing their art practice and conceptual, aesthetic, or material directions, and a résumé limited to 3 pages outlining professional accomplishments.
