About This Call
The Oregon Arts Commission offers non-matching Individual Artist Fellowships of $3,000. There is no pre-determined number of fellowships to be awarded in each discipline. The Commission and its review panel(s) may determine that no fellowships be awarded. One fellow receives the special, honorary Joan Shipley Award, recognizing the late Oregon arts leader Joan Shipley, a founding board member of PICA and the Bonnie Bronson Trust.
Eligible applicants must be current Oregon residents who have resided in Oregon for one full year prior to the application deadline, and must not have received an Oregon Arts Commission Fellowship in the five years prior to submission. Full-time students and non-professionals who produce art as a hobby are not eligible. Each fellowship is awarded to only one individual artist.
Fellowships are awarded based on aesthetic quality of submitted artwork, the artist's sustained professional achievement, and potential for future contribution to the field. Applications are reviewed by Arts Commission staff for completeness and eligibility, followed by review from a panel of arts professionals. Work samples are the most important component of the application. Applicants must submit exactly 10 examples of past work (still and moving images formatted to specifications: still images minimum 1920 pixels on longest side, 72dpi, less than 5 MB; up to 3 of the 10 images may be moving image files in formats 3GP, WMV, AVI, MOV, ASF, MPG, MP4, M2T, MKV, or M2TS). Additional required materials include an artist statement (2000 characters or less) and a résumé limited to 3 pages outlining professional accomplishments.
